Portale 2009
Wood, cardboard and paint, 33.5x49x29.5 cm
Mauro Staccioli Archive Museum, Volterra
In 2009, Galleria Il Ponte, jointly with Galleria Niccoli of Parma and the Associazione Fotoimmagine of Volterra, organised the exhibition project “Mauro Staccioli. Volterra – Places of experience” that ideally originated from the solo exhibition “Volterra ’72. Sculture in città” . Staccioli, native of Volterra, succeeds in creating a dialogue with the entire territory around the city, highlighting times and places of a landscape where history, culture and human work meet with his personal memory. Portale 2009 is no exception. Its location, the entrance path of the Fattoria di Lischeto, is already eloquent of the artist’s reflection on the human work that characterises, also in landscape terms, this territory. This point is more valid if we consider that the sculpture was meant to look at the ellipse originally placed by Staccioli (later moved to the Tenuta di MonteRosola) in Piancorboli: the two sculptures, in continuous dialogue, thus traced the farmers’ usual route from the Persignano small farm to the Lischeto farm.
