Based on the idea of Simonetta Gorreri, organizer of similar events on the Lombard lakes, 14 international artists are invited to design floating works in the Venice lagoon. Staccioli imagines the dissemination of numerous forms with his now typical red: the floating triangles (three in the final work) mark the way to the island of San Giorgio like buoys while only partially emerging, leaving the imagination of the form open in its entirety. In this case, rare in Staccioli’s practice, the work has a title, “Drift”, evoking the sculptures’ reliance on the random motion of the waves. On this occasion, the sculptor finds in the indeterminacy of aquatic motion an affinity with precarious equilibrium.
