“An invasion of war machines, enormous wheels of military vehicles whose essentiality, however, introduces a new element that would become fundamental in the evolution of Staccioli’s work: movement, unstable balance, the impression of precariousness, the sense of unexpected movement in the rigid geometric form. Indeed these sculptures have lost the heavy inertia of reinforced cubes to become mobile, provocative presences with a disquieting effect, as underlined by Edward Lucie Smith in his volume Art in the Seventies.”
