In 1987, Hugh M. Davies, the director of Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego a La Jolla, who had already invited Staccioli to exhibit at the University Gallery of Amherst in 1983, asks him to develop a project for the museum. The four sculptures built for the choosen sites, at the entrance, on the terrace and inside the museum, are variously connected to the characteristics of the environment in which they are inserted. However, they all show, from the project drawings, a common denominator: the dialectical relationship with the force of gravity.
