Bolzano ’95, 1995

Wood, sand and paint, 27×34,3×30,5 cm
Mauro Staccioli Archive Museum, Volterra

After the two fundamental moments of intervention at Villa Celle in Pistoia in 1982 and at the Djerassi Foundation between 1987 and 1991, Staccioli matured a significant reflection on the relationship between sculpture and nature, especially between sculpture and tree. In 1995, the sculptor worked for the Museum of Contemporary Art “Museion” in Bolzano, creating an elongated red triangle that intersects a tree. Rational thought, the constructed form, and nature, placed in relation, are thus reconciled in a synthesis of great harmony. Staccioli establishes a new balance, explicitly sought by him, between human creativity and nature.
