Simposio Internacional de Escultura, 19 April – 7 May 2004.

”In conjunction with the centenary celebrations of the Puerto Rican university of Arecibo, a number of artists, including Staccioli, were invited to attend a major International Symposium on Sculpture organised by Gérard Xuriguera. All the projects studied at the conference were made and installed as permanent works to commemorate the Centenary.
Staccioli came across a giant tree on the university campus of Arecibo. He found out that this plant, a flamboyant (Delonix regia), was now a Puerto Rican national symbol even though it originates from Madagascar. He placed a triangle on it, an empty form letting light through and allowing the branches to intersect with its geometric lines to set up formal interaction of unsual delicacy.”
